In our clinic, a few times a year we show Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. This leads to many questions surrounding the reasoning behind juicing and concerns around a ‘liquid diet’. It also reminds our patients of the powerful role nutrition plays in putting the body in a healing state.
I do not recommend drinking fruit juices or juicing fruits. As Dr. Lustig says “sugar’s the poison and fibre is the anecdote” in Sugar: the Bitter Truth . I do not use the juice to fast and I do not use vegetable juice as a complete meal replacement but I do consume wheatgrass and other green juices every day.
Why wheatgrass?
I attended a lecture on cancer prevention a few years ago by the Director of the Hippocrates Health Institute, Dr Brian Clement. He discussed the role of wheatgrass in their ‘mission to help people radically change their health by trading nutrient-deficient, dead foods for a diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and plant-based proteins.’
Their site has the most comprehensive information on wheatgrass that I have found:
Booster Juice (I do not support any other product they sell nor do I benefit in any way by promoting them) sells 30 mL single shots or 60 mL double shot of wheatgrass juice if you want to give it a try.
What type of juicer do you use?
I use an Omega 8006. I had read that it was one of the best a few years ago. I must admit that I am happy with the juice extracted but have had some challenges with the plastic parts. I break a part on it every few months (most often the screen) although their customer service is very polite and great at quickly sending me the replacement. I requested an upgrade and this request was denied.
Dr. Mercola’s benefits of juicing and although this is a product sale, Dr. Mercola provides a thorough review of juicers.
Cheers! Salud!
